12 mile training walk

Wednesday 22nd Apr
Yesterday I continued my training with aplomb! Trekking up the Downs Link in my wonderful 'jogging suit', dropping into Slinfold and a good pint at the Red Lyon. I met up with Russ and we continued up to Rudgwick where we caught a cheeky pint at the Firebird Brewery before they closed. Then it was back down to the village and a few more pints in The Fox where Terry also joined us. Interesting to see the reactions of people to the suit, generally one of shock and embarrassment! But positively it is bringing some awareness and conversation, as well as some more donations hopefully, to the amazing thing that is The Royal Marsden!

Today I completed my first training walk wearing my very snazzy outfit which was certainly a bright start to the day for everyone!

So today I have decided to up the anti for my fundraising efforts. My aim is to raise at least £1,000.00. To achieve this I am pledging to wear this rather snazzy outfit not only for all my training efforts but also on the day of the walk itself! My hope is that it will bring some awareness of all the incredible things that the Royal Marsden is not only doing right now but also striving to achieve going forward. So with that I am also pledging to train more and get out in amongst the public where there might be an opportunity to have bit of fun around the outfit and the ensuing conversation bring a bit of focus on the amazing institution that is the Royal Marsden!

Trainers!

Thursday 16th Apr
Today I was kindly lent some trainers by a friend for the walk. I have been struggling with this as the last pair of trainers that I wore were Dunlop Green Flash many many years ago and I had absolutely no idea what was suitable for the forthcoming walk. These trainers are a complete game changer, I had no concept at all as to what a difference they would make! It is literally making me bound forward with every step! The ensuing training has upped a level completely!

Training campaign

Sunday 12th Apr
I am in training for the big walk! The campaign is to first conquer the Downs Link in different sections with various stop off points at pubs along the route building up to a full on 16 mile hike up to Cranleigh where I will stop for a wonderful lunch with friends and an all important lift home!

We are walking together - old friends and new, friends of Abby, Thomas and Elliot, to support Jay Cable, who is as diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2023 and is beating the odds due to the care and support of the Royal Marsden. He will be walking on the day.

We are proud to support such an important cause - every donation no matter the size will help the Royal Marsden continue their ground breaking work.
