Our use of Funraisin and transaction fees 

We’re incredibly grateful for the generosity of all our donors and want to be transparent about how online donations made through march.royalmarsden.org are processed. 

We use Funraisin, a secure online donation platform that helps us provide a simple, safe and user-friendly way to give. It’s designed to make donating quick and seamless, so more people can complete their gift with confidence and ultimately raise more for The Royal Marsden.  

Fees FAQs

Does my donation go entirely to the charity?

Yes. 100% of your underlying donation comes directly to us, the charity. Our fundraising platform provider, ensures that every penny of your gift supports our mission. The only deduction applied is the standard payment processing fee charged by our payment provider, Stripe, which is typically 1.4% + 25p per transaction for UK credit cards.

Why am I asked to add a voluntary contribution?

When you donate through our fundraising platform, you may see an option to add a small voluntary contribution on top of your gift. This additional contribution helps cover the costs of our fundraising platform. Our fundraising platform operator provides us with a wide range of services including secure donation technology, 24/7 support, continuous feature upgrades, industry leading data security and compliance, and a passionate team of fundraising professionals who actively support our cause. They can do this without charging us fees on donations, thanks to donors who choose to add this optional contribution.

How much is the voluntary contribution?

The suggested contribution you may see may vary depending on several factors, but always falls within a range of £0.95 to £30. It’s completely optional—your generosity makes an impact with or without this contribution.

Do you, the charity, pay any platform fees?

No. We do not pay our fundraising platform provider platform fees on donations. Instead, their model is sustained by the voluntary contributions that some donors choose to add. This ensures that more of our funds go directly toward delivering our mission.

Why have you chosen this fundraising platform?

We chose Funraisin as our platform provider because they share our commitment to making every donation count. Their platform helps us run fundraising campaigns securely, effectively, and with the professional support of a team who understands fundraising. By covering their costs through voluntary donor contributions, Funraisin allows us to keep more resources focused where they’re needed most - on our mission.

How are the donor voluntary contribution calculated on a £10 example?

When you make a donation, here’s how it works:

Your donation:  If you give £10, the full £10 goes directly to our charity.

Payment processing (Stripe)
: Stripe charges  1.4% + 25p per transaction. On a £10 gift this equals  39p (25p + 14p). We receive £9.61.

Optional contribution to help cover fundraising platform costs:
 You may be invited to add a voluntary contribution on top of your donation. For example, if you give £10 and add £1.33  as a contribution, we still receive the full £10 (minus the Stripe fee above). We pay the £1.33 to Funraisin to help cover the cost of running the platform (support, security, new features, compliance, etc.). This contribution is always optional.

Can I opt out of paying a optional contribution?


Yes. Adding a contribution to support the platform is completely optional. If you prefer not to add it, simply select “I don’t wish to help cover costs”. Your donation will still reach us in full (minus Stripe’s processing fee). Our charity will still not be charged a platform fee if you opt out.
