I’m supporting The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. By donating to my page, our nurses, doctors, and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments. Together, we can save the lives of cancer patients everywhere.
When my husband, Jay, first suggested we walk the Marsden March with family, friends and fellow patients, it was to be under the tagline “together we walk”. Over the last year he channeled much of his borrowed time and energy into fundraising for RMCC – baking, auctioning, and spreading the word. His colleagues raised a phenomenal sum through a sponsored walk on the day he was admitted for his final episode of care. We now reframe that as “in his honour we walk” and will think of him with each step and blister.
We are proud to be supporting such an important cause - every donation, no matter the size, will help the Royal Marsden continue its groundbreaking work.

Reflecting on assorted feelings… which on the 10th May will be replaced with fatigue and soreness, thanks to the Banham Marsden March!
Firstly Gratitude. That my late husband Jay’s grandfather, George Whyte Watson, pioneered chemotherapy (using derivatives of Mustard Gas) in the 1950s - the genesis of the genius combinations of therapy that in 2023 turned a dire prognosis into three years of living life to the absolute max, and all the memories and preparation that that permitted.
Second, Admiration, for all the teams at the Royal Marsden: research, clinicians, nursing, diagnostics, palliative care and all the support staff in between. The Marsden have taken great care of several family members over the years and in 2024 Jay transferred his care there, with justified confidence that they’d be at the forefront of treatment options and robust enough to support him through any circumstances. I was so impressed with what I witnessed that a year later I transferred my career there and am so proud to now be part of the team.
Inevitably the third is Sadness. When Jay first suggested we walk the Marsden March with family, friends and fellow patients, it was to be under the tagline “together we walk”. His Picton colleagues raised a phenomenal sum through their 20th anniversary walk on the day he was admitted for his final episode of care last month. We now reframe that as “in his honour we walk” and will think of him with each step and blister.
Through incredible generosity, “Team Cable” is currently third on the fundraising leaderboard. I know this disease will have touched many of your lives as well. If you are able and willing to contribute a little or a lot, Thomas, Elliot and I walk with even more determination to fund Marsden innovation, so that the next generation of fathers/sons/siblings/husbands can be afforded even more time to make an impact.
