Giving something back
In October last year, my life changed overnight when I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 53.
After several long and difficult months supported in a local care setting, I made the decision to transfer my care to The Royal Marsden in Sutton. Despite the longer travel for treatment, I have never once regretted that decision. I have been incredibly fortunate to be cared for by an outstanding consultant and an exceptional wider team. Their expertise, compassion and unwavering support have carried me through some of the most challenging moments of my life.
The charitable donations raised by patients, families and supporters are the lifeblood of the hospital, enabling it to provide outstanding cancer care and fund vital lifesaving research that benefits people worldwide.
I am greatly inspired my partner Andy, who is bravely taking on the 26 mile South Downs walk in support of The Royal Marsden on the 2nd May.
I am also immensely grateful to my work colleagues in the AMS team at Delaware, who are aiming to complete an impressive 15 miles at the Banham Marsden March on 10th May in support of me and raise funds for this incredible hospital.
I am hoping to take part in the shorter 5 mile family route with my friend Teri Barden and our children in memory of my late father, Bryan Saunders, who directly benefited from the prostate cancer medication Abiraterone developed at the hospital’s research facilities.
I have set up this fundraising page to try to give something back to the hospital that has given me so much.
If you are able to give, no matter how small, we would be deeply grateful.
