Twice a Survivor

Hello all, thank you for taking the time to read my page . As most of you know back in 2015 I got told those dreadful words that I had cancer- Hodgkin's Lymphoma. When I think back I don't quite know how I digested that information, my son Shai was only 5. You can only imagine the fear I felt. When you hear those words you automatically think the worst and especially at night when I'd watch him sleep, that's when the fear truly kicked in. With the help of fantastic nurses and doctors, I got through the treatment and was given the all clear 6 months later. Skip forward 3 years sadly I relapsed in 2018, I was referred to The Royal Marsden hospital as I was told I'd need a secondary treatment. Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy it was to be and undoubtedly one of the hardest fights I've ever been put up against. Shai was only 8 years old, he understood a little more of what was happening and when he asked me if I was going to die, it hit me hard. With the help once again from such an amazing hospital and staff they helped me in advising Shai the best I could. When my consultant told me the course of treatment, I had full trust in him and the fight was on once again. The staff couldn't do enough for me, they stayed late often because I was in pain. They were always there If I needed them and I got to witness on the inside just how much they do for absolutely everyone that walks through those doors. After many days, weeks and months of back and forth I once again was given those words that I had longed to hear once again, I was cancer free!! I am one of the lucky ones to still be here with my Shai, watching him grow and especially getting to watch him become such a wonderful human being, all thanks to The Royal Marsden. I am once again doing the march to try and raise as much money as possible, a token of thanks and to help fund such an incredible charity to help those who also have to walk through those doors. This walk is a huge challenge for me as most of you know I still struggle with energy and being that I broke the fibular bone in my ankle last year it brings a whole new challenge. But I am determined to do it, with my real life super hero Shai and friends.
