In Memory of My Beautiful Mum

Walking for a Cause Close to My Heart

Four years ago this May, I lost my beautiful mum to lung cancer. The pain of that loss is still with me every day, and although time has passed, the ache in my heart hasn't softened. In many ways, I will never truly get over it.

However, after four years of grief, I’ve found the courage to take a step forward—to do something in her honour, something that I hope will make a small difference in the fight against this devastating disease.

Alongside a few close friends, I’ve decided to walk the Marsden March for the Royal Marsden Charity. We’ll be walking not just for my mum, but for all those who have been affected by cancer—Every step I take on that day will be a step for her, and for every other person whose life has been cut short by this aggressive illness.

Living without her is a constant pain. Every day, I struggle to put one foot in front of the other without her by my side. The milestones in my life that she should’ve been there for—my children’s cheerleading competitions, rugby games, my marriage, birthdays, the list could go on — are all bittersweet, as she’s no longer here to witness them or share in those memories. It hurts knowing she’ll never get to see my children grow, or be part of our family’s future.

I hold tight to the precious memories I made with her, but they feel too few, cut short by the relentless toll of this disease. And like so many others walking in the Marsden March, I want to make a small change. I want to help raise awareness and funds that could help others avoid the pain I’ve felt and will always continue to feel.

So, I’m reaching out to you, asking for your kindness. If you can, please consider donating—no amount is too small. Your contribution will help the Royal Marsden Charity continue their incredible work in cancer research, treatment, and support for families like mine.

This walk is for my mum, and for all those who have been affected by cancer. Thank you for your support, and for keeping my mum’s memory alive XXX
