Boys Marching for the Marsden

On Sunday 12th May I have the privilege to be joining some my closest friends to do the Marsden March - A 15 mile walk between the Royal Marsden in Chelsea & the Royal Marsden in Sutton.

The reason we are doing this is because one of us, Jonny, (who I have been great friends with for over 30 years) has been battling cancer for the last 2 years and the Royal Marsden have provided him with amazing care and support and we want to raise as much £ as we can to help them continue with their amazing work.

My ask is not to support me, but to support Jonny and the Royal Marsden, because they absolutely deserve it - Read Jonny’s story below:

Many of you will know (and many don’t) that I have spent the last two and a bit years battling stage four bladder cancer and except for the first three months, all of my treatment and operations have been with the Royal Marsden.

The treatment and care I have received from the many team members at the Royal Marsden has been exceptional and the kindness of the staff, who are having to deal with both happiness and deep sadness on a daily basis, has been incredible.

While this is by no means the biggest challenge that I have taken on in my life, it is certainly the most meaningful. Six of us, including my three boys (Angie is away!) - aged 15, 9 and 8 - will be walking the 15 miles between the two Royal Marsden hospitals in Chelsea and Sutton on Sunday 12th May. The boys and I will be joined by great friends, Chris ' Belli' Mathias and Ben 'Fin' Cook. Both have run, and more recently shuffled alongside me on several full and half marathons over the years, but over the last two years have been an incredible support on my cancer marathon.

We are looking to raise as much as we can for the Royal Marsden to help continue the great research and patient treatment that they are world leaders at. I haven’t asked anyone for sponsorship since I ran the London marathon in 2008, so please help however you can and pledge the last 16 year’s worth to this challenge and great cause. And then add a little bit more for Sam and Harry, aged 9 and 8 respectively for walking 15 miles with those little legs!

Lots of Love, Jonny, Joe, Sam, Harry, Ben and Chris
