Helen's story: In June 2011, during a routine dental appointment, a lump was found in my neck. While initial tests suggested everything was okay, the news following its removal was life-changing: it was thyroid cancer. Further surgery followed in January 2012, along with radioactive iodine treatment. After more tests, I was referred to The Royal Marsden for specialist care. The team there, led by Dr Newbold, has been fabulous, and I am now fortunate enough to be monitored annually as part of their outreach programme. I'm so grateful for the wonderful care I receive; I take part in the Marsden March to raise awareness of their fantastic work and to help secure the funds needed for it to continue.
The Knightsfield Nutters will be donning their trainers on 10th May to walk 15 miles from London to Sutton. Our feet may hurt and blisters are likely, but it will be worth every step! The Royal Marsden has done so much for our family and many others, so it is a privilege to give something back.
