Walk with us in memory of the amazing Alastair!

Join us, Al’s Army, in a walk to support The Royal Marsden in memory of the amazing Alastair Lynn, who very sadly passed away from a heroic battle with cancer in August 2024. As many of you know, Alastair himself took part in this event in May last year and raised over £3,000 for The Royal Marsden, of which he was incredibly proud, as he wanted to give back a little of what The Royal Marsden had done for him over the years <3>

Alastair was diagnosed with advanced germ cell cancer in November 2019 and was quickly whisked up by The Royal Marsden in Sutton to start an intensive chemotherapy treatment. From the moment we arrived at Kennaway Ward, we were greeted by the friendliest, most reassuring team of healthcare assistants, nurses and doctors and knew we were in good hands. The Royal Marsden soon became our second home as, over 4.5 years of treatment, the urology team painstakingly threw every treatment they could at the cancer and Alastair, determined as ever, kept unwaveringly positive as he fought on.

Through The Royal Marsden, Alastair was offered groundbreaking treatments such as CyberKnife, an ultra-precise radiotherapy machine, which Alastair was in awe of and made possible by funds raised through The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. You can read his interview with The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity on his experience with CyberKnife below:

As Alastair said on his own fundraising page last year, The Royal Marsden literally saved his life multiple times and he became a keen spokesperson for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Alastair candidly shared his story at fundraising events and featured in interviews in The Royal Marsden magazine and on their website. In 2023, he was invited to the opening of The Oak Cancer Centre, a brand new building at the Sutton site funded by supporters of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which transformed the weekly visits Alastair had to make to the hospital. Whilst we miss Alastair tremendously and wish every day that he could still be with us, we will be forever grateful to The Royal Marsden for giving Alastair as much time as he had to spread his message of hope and positivity amongst us all and for making him feel like a VIP every time he stepped foot in the hospital. We’d like to invite anyone who is up for the challenge to join us in walking together to remember Alastair on a day that meant so much to him last year and to raise as much money as we can for this incredibly important charity that continues to help people like Alastair.

Please sign up and join our team (anyone is welcome!) to walk either 5 miles or 15 miles or support us through a donation as we fundraise our way to the finish line!
