My 'Why?'

I’m supporting The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. By donating to my page, their nurses, doctors, and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments.

Cancer is a dreadful disease and needs to be beaten. Our family, amongst many many others, has been affected by Cancer and we are determined to raise as much money, and awareness, as we can to help this charity find a cure for such a horrible disease. My lovely Dad was taken by Mesothelioma Cancer in 2008, a type of cancer that develops in the lining that covers the outer surface of some of the body's organs. It's usually linked to asbestos exposure. More than 2,700 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma each year in the UK.

We also lost my ‘grumpy’ Grandad in August 2021 to Lung Cancer. We are without two extremely important men in our family and have too many large holes in our hearts, forever. Nanny was taken from us in January 2022, so soon after losing Gdad, which again, was another huge hit to our family. It will never ‘sink in’ that they’re gone.

This year, the fight has become even more important. Another member of our family has been diagnosed. It is a horrible reminder that this disease doesn't stop, so neither can we.

My 'Why?':

For Dad: Mesothelioma remains a devastating diagnosis. In the UK, around 2,200 people still die from this asbestos-related cancer every year.
For Grandad: Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in the UK, claiming around 35,000 lives annually.
To ensure patients have access to the world-leading trials and treatments that only places like The Royal Marsden can provide.
The new year of 2026: The first year fundraising as a Harris! I want to do my family proud by pushing myself further than ever - swapping my usual 5k for the full 15-mile route. Golly!

Please help me turn these 'holes in our hearts' into hope for another family. Every pound raised goes directly toward finding a cure and supporting those currently in the fight.
