Together we walk!

I’m walking to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre who provide support for both cancer patients and their families.

This year, more than ever, I have come to appreciate the astonishing amount of help & support Marsden give, and with Black Swan Border Morris choosing this as our charity for 2025, want to do as much as I can for them.

By donating to my page, their nurses, doctors, and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world. Together, we can transform the lives of cancer patients. Please support me today.

A MASSIVE Thank you for your donation

Monday 12th May
Huge thank yous to everyone who sponsored me as part of the Black Swan Morris team. Together we raised over £3000 for our chosen charity this year, the Royal Marsden. The walk was full of positivity, resilience, laughter and hope- it also was a reminder of how cancer heartbreakingly changes lives for those with cancer, their families and friends and the important work the Marsden does in supporting and helping them. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity and kindness. Personally - I might be back next year!

Final 15 mile practice: South London park & woodland route

Sunday 4th May

Practice 15 mile walks - what I've learnt with 9 days to go!

Friday 2nd May
With just over a week to go and a Bank Holiday weekend ahead, it is the perfect time for a final 15 mile practice walk.
Walking a steady 5 miles to and from work has definitely helped build up my walking stamina and improved my overall wellbeing by walking in all weathers and watching spring push winter away, watching as budded leaves unfurl as every day moves from spring to summer.
Previous 15 mile walks have included the pavements of five London Boroughs, but I feel more greenery is required with the arrival of May. So this weekend, walking will be through some parks and commons as well as on the urban streets, readying myself for walking through Wimbledon Common and Raynes Park next Sunday.
Photos  show one of some of my previous routes that began and ended at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead (thank to William Marsden for this amazing hospital too.)

What I have learnt so far doing practice walks

Monday 31st Mar
After completing a couple of long urban walks, including my first full 15 miles yesterday, I have a few hints and tips that might help, if you too are Marsden Marching this May:

1. Good walking socks
With extra padding on specific foot areas and no seams, these are a blister-free way to complete 15 miles. I learnt the hard way.
Treat your feet to a pair of walking socks!

2. Keep hydrated! Plan your water stops. I ran out of water regularly on a mild spring day, so plan where to get your water pit-stops from.
Look out for pubs on your route who offer free tap water, often in jugs at the end of the bar or will fill up your water bottle if you ask. Other free water points also include  Mayor of London blue water fountain points/stations located at public transport interchanges (thank you Highbury & Islington overground/tube station)

This leads onto point 3

3. Nearest loos - Worth planning on any long urban walk. Plan you practice route taking note of pubs/park cafes and public toilets, so you're not caught short!

4. Most of all get outside and enjoy the walking! Add in parks, sites of interest as well as pounding the pavements both steep climbs and flat to take in and enjoy London in the springtime whilst getting your legs use to the different walking terrains.
Take photos and better still, take family and friends with you, who will help makes the time and the miles speed by & creates wonderful memories and shared experiences.

Roll on May 11th!
