Wednesday 21st Jan This year, I’ll be taking part in the Marsden March to support an incredible charity that means a great deal to me, The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.I’m doing this walk in memory of a good friend and colleague, Andy Fildes.
Andy was one of those people who left a lasting impression. He was kind, genuine, and someone who brought warmth and humour into the workplace without ever trying. Losing him was a huge shock, and like so many others, I felt that familiar sense of helplessness that comes with grief, wanting to do something, but not always knowing what.
The Royal Marsden supports world-leading cancer research, treatment, and care. Their work helps not only patients, but families, friends, and loved ones navigating the most difficult moments of their lives. Supporting a charity that actively changes outcomes and offers hope feels like a meaningful way to honour Andy’s memory.
The Marsden March isn’t just a walk. It’s a chance to remember, to reflect, and to contribute to something bigger than myself. Every step is for those we’ve lost, those still fighting, and those who will one day benefit from the research and care this charity provides.
I’m walking for Andy, and for everyone affected by cancer.
