Team Ida - together we walk!
I’m walking to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. By donating to my page, their nurses, doctors, and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world. Together, we can transform the lives of cancer patients. Please support me and 'Team Ida' as we 'March For Marsden' to raise money.
Why 'Team Ida'?
Ida is my 13 year old daughter. She is beautiful and brave, a humble warrior in the truest sense.
Ida has inspired us with her resilience and courage. 3 years ago Ida was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma on her 11th birthday. A bolt from the blue that derailed her last term of primary school. It was a heart-breaking and scary time for us.
The Royal Marsden took Ida under their wing and she had 6 months of chemotherapy that made her well again. Following treatment she flourished into a confident teenager, coming into her own socially and doing brilliantly at school.
Last summer we were devastated to learn that the Hodgkins Lymphoma had come back. Ida is in a small percentage of children who relapse after first-line treatment. Ida is now undergoing an even longer and more intensive treatment programme to cure her. This has included being a pioneer on an immunotherapy clinical trial and she'll need a long hospital stay in the late Spring for a stem cell transplant.
It’s been an incredibly turbulent time but our family get a real sense of comfort, security and hope when we are at the Royal Marsden. Not only are we in very safe hands medically, it's the radiating warmth and positivity of staff that lifts Ida's spirits and we valued that so much. We are hugely grateful everyday for the amazing, hard-working people and resources of the Royal Marsden and we don't take any of it for granted.
Together with Ida's equally brave and beautiful younger sister, my rock of a sister and some of my amazing gung-ho friends, we will March for Marsden on May 12th to raise funds for this vitally important hospital.
