Together we walk!
So it's that time of year again...I'm walking with a band of friends to raise funds for the Marsden where my son Cam was successfully treated nearly eight years ago.
The fact that he's here, ignoring the brilliance of my maternal wisdom on all manner of topics is entirely down to the expertise of the Marsden. Every birthday and Christmas and many other days in between I send up a massive thanks to whoever it was on the Marsden team who recognised that the original diagnosis - Hodgkin Lymphoma - was incorrect. He actually had a rare form of lymphoma - Grey Zone, which they don't see very often and required a different treatment. That person - or people - gave Cam back to us. Along with that, they gave us a second chance at life, a new one where I'm so much more grateful for any tiny moment of joy that comes my way.
It's hard to put into words what it feels like to be told your child has cancer so I'm not going to try - it's as awful as you imagine times five hundred, swirls up a ton of guilt, regret and difficult conversations that most of us - including me - hope to sidestep in our lives. However, amongst all that fear and shock, the team at the Marsden made us feel as though we were in the safest possible hands, helping us put one foot in front of the other until good times came again.
I'd love to help other families facing their own bad news - as always, more research is key. So I'd be really grateful if you could sponsor me...anything is so welcome. Thank you.
The Royal Marsden is a world-leading cancer centre. By donating to my page, their nurses, doctors, and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world. Together, we can transform the lives of cancer patients. Please support me today.
