Together we walk!
I’m walking to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. By donating to my page, their nurses, doctors, and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world. Together, we can transform the lives of cancer patients. Please support me today.

Mums story
Tuesday 4th Mar I always like to keep her story untouched, the way she wrote it when we did the march together back in 2017 just adding the end.She took part in many trials over the years, in promotional campaigns to share her BRCA story and spent her time creating and donating things for the childrens ward parties. Despite what she went through, she dealt with it head on and never gave up. Having to deal with cancer just once is traumatic for anyone, but once she was diagnosed with ovarian rather than being understandably angry or bitter at the hand she'd been dealt, she said that she was grateful that it had allowed me and my sister to get the information, support and access to the preventative we needed to stop us having to go through what she did. That's the type of person mum was. She spent the last few years in and out of hospital, remaining strong until the end before she finally passed on 4/3/21.
**I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 1999 and after a bi-lateral mastectomy, a dose of MRSA and several other related operations I thought my brush with cancer was over.
Fast foward to 2013 and after tummy ache for a week then feeling a hard lump behind my belly button I went to see the doctor who initially diagnosed a hernia. A month later after an ultrasound, biopsy etc I was diagnosed with late stage ovarian cancer showing tumours on both ovaries, one in the abdomen and also found on my bowel during surgery.
After chemotherapy at The Royal Marsden Sutton I had surgery at The Royal Marsden Chelsea in September followed by more chemotheraphy . I am now taking part in a clinical trial for BRCA gene carriers that will hopefully keep the beast at bay and help treatment for future cancer patients.
I was found to carry the BRCA ONE gene in October 2013.
We always thought that we had genetic cancer in the family as my great grandmother died of breast cancer in her fifties, then my mum at aged 41. We recently found out that my grandmother who lived to the ripe old age of 96 years was saved due to having a hysterectomy in her late twenties after 6 children.
I would like to thank The Royal Marsden hospitals for their excellent care during all my treatment. I have seen first hand how much cancer treatment and research has moved on just since 1999.
We know times are hard, everything is going up- except wages! But please give as much as you can afford to help others in the fight against cancer.
