Giving back 💘

Monday 9th Feb
I’m raising money for The Royal Marsden who have taken care of my mum and best friend since 2025 .  I want to give back to such an amazing and exceptional hospital .
In February last year, my mum was  diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer. Her chemotherapy was given at The Royal Marsden in Sutton, along with 42 daily sessions of radiotherapy. she also spent time as an inpatient when she  became very unwell.

The care she receives is  nothing short of amazing. The doctors and nurses are exceptional.

Unfortunately, her primary cancer has not yet been found, meaning she will remain under the care of The Royal Marsden long term. However, the secondary cancer found in the lymph nodes in her neck was successfully treated and has gone, for which I will be forever grateful.

During investigations, she had a section of her tongue removed, her  tonsils taken out, and her back teeth (top and bottom) removed in the search for the primary cancer. She continues to have regular blood tests, counselling, and ongoing treatment. Just last week she underwent another tongue biopsy and is  currently waiting for the results.

She now attends weekly acupuncture at the Marsden to help manage long-term side effects from treatment, including nerve damage in her mouth, loss of  her saliva gland, and facial lymphoedema. More recently, multiple enlarged lymph nodes have been found in her groin, so is  currently under investigation, with further scans scheduled. She has  check-ups every two months and will continue this level of monitoring for the next five years.

Giving back is incredibly important to me. With her consultant’s permission, she will be walking the Royal Marsden March on 10th May, alongside 18 friends and family. If you, or anyone you know, would like to sponsor us—or if a workplace would like to donate—we would be so grateful. Even sharing our fundraising link on Facebook or Instagram would mean a great deal.

I will be walking not only for myself, but for friends and loved ones who are currently under the care of the Marsden, those we have lost, and the countless families affected by cancer. Sadly, the list is endless.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. If you’re able to donate, please follow the link below. 💜
