Our Story

Hi, 
We are team ‘Sussex Strollers’ Linda and Matt Day, and are taking part in The Banham Marsden March at Home.
In two parts we intend to walk for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, from Groombridge to Three Bridges.  The planned route is along The Forest and Worth Way, approximately 18 miles in total. 
Part One will be on the 19.04.25 and the route will be on the Forest Way from Groombridge to East Grinstead.  
Part two will be 04.05.25 and the route will be the Worth Way from East Grinstead to Three Bridges.
We are taking on this challenge to raise money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, as they fought for many years to treat the cancer that my sister and Aunty to Matt had.
Shirley was diagnosed with Myeloma at the age of 43 in 2006.  Myeloma is a blood cancer arising from plasma cells, it is treatable but unfortunately incurable.
Shirley lived with Myeloma for almost 20 years, receiving treatment at the R M that gave her periods of remission. Enabling her to continue to work as a nurse, and have more years than she ever thought she might have! During these years she showed us all just how strong, brave and resilient she was. 
With each cycle of treatment that was needed the chemo became that little bit stronger, and over the years that took its toll on Shirley, and sadly she passed away peacefully on 14th March 2025.
Please, please, please support us, as it’s our way of showing thanks for all the treatment and care Shirley received, for the support given to Peter,Anna,Rebecca,visiting family and friends at such a difficult time,and providing money to help with research so that others can be helped in the future.
