Walking together in memory of Ali
“Live each day to the full, and whatever you do, enjoy yourself. Make the most of every moment filled with happiness and purpose”. These were the words myself and my brother grew up with. Our father was the most active, healthy and happy man.
In the summer of 2021, our father was diagnosed with head and neck cancer. With the help of the team at the Royal Marsden, he went into remission and on to enjoying almost two years of a “normal” life, living each moment to the full. Then, in the summer of 2023, we found out the cancer had come back, and this time, more aggressively. For the next 18 months our father showed us what it meant to have hope, be resilient and keep on fighting. He went through clinical trials and until the very last moment, held on to the possibility of a miracle. On the 1st of January, 2025, our father left us peacefully under the care of the Chelsea Royal Marsden team. His stay in hospital was brief, and he was surrounded by his loved ones.
Our path in life has changed, but we will continue moving as our father would have wanted us to. On 11th May, at 11am, we will walk for 15 miles and know that our father would be so proud of us and that he would be on this walk too - embracing the activity, community and purpose. We will be walking in his memory, and all those who are living with cancer, those who have lost their lives, and those who are affected by a loved one who is fighting the disease. Please join us, we would love for you to walk with us!
